Scott & Emily’s Bookcase
This project was intended to add storage, display space, and a window seat to the clients dining room. We decided to give the unit different depths in order to accommodate the different items to be displayed, then tied them all together with an extended window jamb above the bench seat. Underneath the bench seat is a large drawer for storing less sightly items. Shadow lines around the perimeter of the unit help to hide the natural fluctuations in Pittsburgh’s older housing stock. The project was built entirely from ¾ birch plywood with the exception of the bench seat top, which the client sourced from an old laboratory table. We were thrilled when Scott and Emily expressed how much bigger and more beautiful the whole space feels now.
